I was on a nostalgia trip digging into old BASIC programs and wondering about how to teach my kids programming the same way I caught the bug when I discovered BASIC-256 in Ubuntu's Synaptic package list. (I did encounter one bug (program freezing-up), but was able to correct it by installing the BASIC-256 0.9.6.48 backport as instructed in another forum post ( http://forum.basic256.org/index.php?id=6 ).)

It looks like a great program. Perfect for raising a new generation of hackers in the 21st century.

I'm also glad to see that in addition to fixing my freezing problem, version 0.9.6.48 also has improved handling of Japanese kanji text, which will make it a lot easier for my Japanese-speaking kids to use.
