French translation of the GUI available (Documentation Bugs and Problems)

by Frédéric @, Sunday, February 17, 2013, 07:32 (1675 days ago)

I have made the French translation of the GUI (file basic256_fr.ts).
How can I send it to you?

Question: how do I make it work?
I am on linux and when I do ./BASIC256 -l de or ./BASIC256 -l fr, it always comes in English.
Also, other languages have a .qm file. How to generate this file?

I managed to make it work. First I found that I just need to run lrelease-qt4 to generate the .qm file. Then the problem was that some paths are written in the code and do not change when BASIC256.pro is updated with new paths. Below is the patch I had to apply to make translation work with my non standard paths. Would be nice that these be changed when BASIC256.pro is updated.
How can I submit the French translation?

You use a program called "QT Linguist" that will process the .ts file into the compiled .qm file. From the File menu choose Release As and you can build the file.

You can email the files to me at jim@renejm.com and I will see them added to the next release.

Sorry it has taken me s long. The work you have done will be in the next binary release (and is now in the SVN at Sourceforge). The error messages were missed in the Linguist export in the version you did the translation for.

Thanks for the work,
Jim

Do you need more help?

I would also like to translate the documentation in French, not only the GUI. But I do not see where to start. Is is pure html as I can see it in wikihelp/help/fr_*.html? Or is there anything else?

Is the svn version something public I can clone on my PC to contribute?

Frédéric,

Go to the site http://doc.basic256.org and create a login into the WIKI. Once you do you need to send me a private email (jim at renejm dot com) with the ID you created and I will give you permission to modify the on-line documentation.

The off-line is generated from the on-line WIKI help so any change you make will be included in the next pull-down of help. We do not edit the documentation in the wikihelp folder.

You can svn the source tree at sourceforge and get the development code (and what we are working on). Are you a c++ or QT programmer?

Jim
